Job Summary

Reporting to the Population Health Epidemiologist, this position is responsible for the assessment of information needs, the planning of information strategies, the identification and compiling of program data needs, coordination of reporting requirements, and manipulation of data and statistical information related to population health. Position focuses on particular areas within population health, such as environmental health, communicable disease, chronic disease, aboriginal health, women’s health, injury prevention, emergency preparedness, and/or other areas requiring population health surveillance within the unit. Provides strategic information support and also provides technical support for a health geographic information system (GIS) and its applications. Researches, collects, manipulates, and analyzes comprehensive information needed for the on-going development of health data sets, reports, and the GIS system for the Office of the Chief Medical Health Officer. Works with communities for community health assessments, as needed.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field such as health information science or social science and recent, related experience of three years including experience with the use of large databases, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Training in and experience with the use of GIS is required.

Demonstrated Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of statistical design and quantitative and qualitative statistical methods. 
  • Ability to design and implement research studies. 
  • Ability to perform complex statistical and trend analyses, projections, and forecasts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others. 
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with others.  Ability to analyze and resolve problems.
