Our GIS Technician/Internet Cartography positions involve working with geographic information in the design and development of Internet mapping-based applications for clients across North America and, increasingly, around the world.
Experience is preferred; enthusiasm, curiosity and passion are required.
Qualifications:
- Good communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Thorough understanding of GIS and cartographic concepts
- Thorough knowledge of the following software packages and technologies: ArcGIS Desktop, XML
- Experience with any of the following technologies an asset: ArcIMS, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server
- A strong sense of design and visual balance, a strong creative vision
- Knowledge of advanced GIS analysis/processes an asset (e.g. Geoprocessing models)
Duties include:
- Working with geographic data on an ESRI-based platform
- Becoming an exceptional web-based cartographer
- Creating effective AXL and MXD based map services using a variety of software tools
- Configuring web-GIS sites using XML editors and other software
- Loading, converting and manipulating geographic data from/to a variety of formats
- Some hard-copy cartography
- Testing and troubleshooting of GIS data and services
- Other duties as assigned
This is a cool, important position at Latitude Geographics that rarely comes available (we hire five computer programmers for every geographer we add).
