Wildlife Management Biologist, Wek’èezhìi Renewable Resources Board (Yellowknife, NT)

Role:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Wildlife Management Biologist is responsible for providing professional expertise on wildlife and wildlife habitat management in Wek’eezhii.

Duties:

  1. Participation on technical issues

    • Inter-agency meetings, working groups etc
    • Build & maintain relationships with other agencies and stakeholders
    • Participate in management planning processes
  2. Data and Information Management

    • Species assessment
    • Wildlife habitat inventory and assessment
    • Industrial development / reclamation activities
    • GIS capability
    • Review available information and identify information gaps
  3. Review Applications and Proposals

    • Management actions
    • Land use permits and water licenses
    • Species-at-risk
  4. Board and Executive Director

    • Provide technical advice and support
    • Assist with communication activities

Skills and Qualifications

M.Sc. in a wildlife biology discipline supplemented with a minimum of two years work experience in an applied wildlife research or management position. Candidates with an appropriate combination of education and relevant work experience will also be considered. Experience working in a cross-cultural setting, knowledge of northern wildlife issues and familiarity with the Tlicho language and culture would all be definite assets.

Remuneration:

$70,000 to $80,000 per year plus benefits and pension. Salary reviewed on an annual basis.
