Role:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Research and Monitoring Coordinator is responsible for providing professional expertise on wildlife research and monitoring in Wek’eezhii.
Duties:
- Interact with Agencies and Researchers
- ENR research activities
- ARI wildlife research permits
- Academic agencies
- Research and Monitoring
- Prioritizing research requirements (with budgeting)
- Manage WRRB research activities (harvest study, TK etc)
- Monitor research permit applications submitted to ENR & ARI
- Assist other researchers (info-sharing, coordination)
- Community Outreach / Communication
- Elders Advisory Group
- Talk with harvesters and community residents
- Educational programs
- Developing Research Partnerships
- Identify funding sources
- Write funding proposals / develop partnerships
- Reporting and accountability
Skills and Qualifications
M.Sc. in a wildlife biology discipline supplemented with a minimum of two years work experience in an applied wildlife research or management position. Candidates with an appropriate combination of education and relevant work experience will also be considered. Experience working in a cross-cultural setting, knowledge of northern wildlife issues and familiarity with the Tlicho language and culture would all be definite assets.
Remuneration:
$65,000 to $75,000 per year plus benefits and pension. Salary reviewed on an annual basis.
