This is an incredible two-phase employment opportunity in which you will have the chance to develop in-depth knowledge and skills from a GIS Technician (STO 18) to a GIS Analyst level (STO 21) within 2 years.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Integrated Land Management Bureau is the primary provincial agency responsible for coordinating and accepting applications for access to Crown natural resources and delivering natural resource authorization adjudication services on behalf of mandated ministries. It also develops, implements and revises land-use plans and manages and delivers natural resource information.

The Land Information Management (LIM) section of the Regional Client Service Division (RCSD) has primary responsibility for identifying client needs and ensuring needs are met through the effective delivery of decision support services.

Over a period of 24 months, you’ll work through the first phase of this position, gaining important experience and expanding your knowledge base, before moving on to the second phase of a GIS Analyst.

As GIS Technician, you will conduct spatial data analysis on a variety of land and resource planning and decision making projects. Projects include land use planning, habitat analysis, environmental monitoring and reporting, socio-economic analyses, support to First Nation negotiations.

You will use your expertise in the discipline of information and analysis to: gather digital data from a range of subject areas; apply analytical processes; and develop products to meet the needs of various clients.

Our ideal candidate has:
– a Technical Diploma in a resource management related field or computer science and 2 year related experience plus a demonstrated working knowledge of ArcGIS; or a Bachelor Degree in a resource management related field, computer science or geography and a demonstrated working knowledge of ArcGIS. Formal training in geomatics is preferred.
– Demonstrated experience manipulating and integrating geographical and statistical data using ESRI geographic information systems and relational database management systems (preferably Oracle)
– Demonstrated experience creating a variety of digital, geographical and descriptive products including themes, colour thematic maps, terrain models and associated descriptive statistics
– Good ability to learn new technical and interpersonal techniques
