Duties:
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Data Editor is responsible for updating critical forest resource GIS databases. Under the general supervision of the GIS Supervisor, the Data Editor works in a customized ArcEdit environment digitizing and updating data to reflect the most recent information available from air photo interpretation, satellite imagery and field inventories. The Data Editor carries out analyses and provides information to clients using ArcGIS Desktop. Using developed routines, the Data Editor participates in the classification of satellite imagery, and incorporation of the results into the inventory. The Data Editor participates in the development of data distribution services, including metadata maintenance and publication, web site data download pages, and web map applications. The Data Editor participates in and supports the GIS Section’s migration to an ArcMap-geodatabase editing environment.

Qualifications:
 
Requires Grade XII plus graduation from a two year technical course with certified training in the use and application of GIS, plus 4 years related experience; or, acceptable equivalent in training and experience. The planner must be able to edit and update GIS map layers using ArcInfo Workstation (ArcEdit), and create maps and perform analysis with ArcGIS Desktop. Experience with any of SQL, web development & programming, geodatabases, remote sensing and image processing and classification, and editing forestry data would be an asset. The Data Editor must be able to work accurately and precisely with a mouse, keyboard, and computer screen for extended periods of time. The Data Editor should be able to work cooperatively in a production team environment. The Data Editor will occasionally be required to visit regional DNR offices and therefore must have a valid driver’s license.

Classification Level: TE16- 22
 
Salary Range: $34,053.52 – $50,516.61
