The Department of Geography at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a tenure track position in planning at the rank of Associate Professor effective 1 July 2008.
This is a permanent position initially funded as a research chair by Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The goal of the chair is to expand knowledge production and dissemination on community planning with Aboriginal communities.
Applicants will have a well-established record of peer-reviewed academic research in an area of planning with Aboriginal communities in addition to a doctorate in planning or a related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in professional planning practice, particularly with Aboriginal communities. ‘Planning with Aboriginal communities’ is understood broadly as including Aboriginal communities on reserves, rural, remote or northern, or in urban areas. It may also encompass planning at the interface between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. The CPR Chair has a significant budget attached to it for the development of a research team, funding of undergraduate and graduate student awards and community-university symposia and outreach focused on planning with Aboriginal communities.
The Department is in the process of changing its name to the Department of Geography & Planning and integrating its human geography program with the BA in Regional and Urban Planning, a professional planning program accredited by the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Association of Professional Community Planners of Saskatchewan. The successful candidate will have, or be eligible and willing to apply for, membership in the CIP. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a doctorate in Planning or Geography who can contribute to one of the Department’s two areas of strength in planning and human geography, namely, ‘Sustainable Cities & Regions’ and ‘Environment & Health’.
