Sustainable Resource Development , Red Deer –Reporting to the Program Manager, Land Management within the PrairiesArea, you will be responsible for managing industrial, commercial, bedand shore, and recreational activities on public land within the RedDeer District. You will make land use decisions based on the principlesof integrated resource management, department legislation, policydirectives and goals. The position requires information gathering, landuse planning and decision making, evaluating and monitoring operations,report writing, administration/processing of dispositions, issuance oftemporary approvals, assisting in the identification and development ofoperational policy and extension services. This will require knowledgein native ecosystems, reclamation, and land management practices. Youwill provide relevant advice, technical information and mediation tovarious clients for a variety of uses of public lands.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills arenecessary as the position requires working closely with a broad rangeof stakeholders representing the general public, industry and variousgovernment agencies. Additionally, organization and problem-solvingskills as well as the ability to work independently are required.Knowledge and experience with computer software and programs used bythe department would be an asset.

Qualifications: Degree in Natural Sciences or related field with considerable years of directly related experience in land and resource management is preferred. As an equivalency, additional education in lieu of some experience or a diploma in natural resources or related field with extensive years of directly related experience in land and resource management will be considered. Extensive knowledge and application of relevant legislation and regulations is required. Knowledge of GIS applications and the upstream oil and gas sector is an asset. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower level and salary. Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening. A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
