SALARY: $53,335 to $67,236 per year

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental science, resource management, geography, resource planning or a related discipline. Course work in biology, geography, natural resources, soils, water resources, land-use planning and ecosystem science is an asset.

The candidate must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the theory and principles of integrated watershed planning and resource management. The candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal and organizational skills and knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office and GIS. Project management skills are required to set objectives, direct planning staff, set timelines, achieve deadlines, and measure progress.

Several years of experience in integrated land and water management planning would be an asset. Experience working with local watershed boards, public consultation, meeting facilitation, watershed health analysis, report compilation and program administration would be an asset. Candidates should be familiar with the Water Protection Act and the Manitoba

Conservation Districts Program.

The position may be located in Neepawa, Brandon or Winnipeg, to be determined. The candidate must possess a valid Manitoba driver’s licence and be willing and available to travel and attend evening and/or weekend meetings.

Duties:
Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Watershed Planner provides watershed management planning and policy advice to department executives, conservation districts, water planning authorities and provincial staff. The Senior Watershed Planner oversees the delivery of integrated watershed management planning in Manitoba, including state of watershed reports, source water protection assessments, watershed health report cards, public consultations and planning agreements with stakeholders. This includes cross-jurisdictional liaison, administering Conservation District Commission policy, administering the provisions of the Water Protection Act, and fostering the continued growth and development of the integrated watershed management planning process in Manitoba.
