Reporting to the Area Manager and working within the ResourceInformation Unit in the Foothills Area of Alberta, you will beresponsible for developing, coordinating, maintaining and enhancing theResource Information and Information Technology programs. As the AreaUnit Leader, you will provide leadership and direction to a number ofprofessional staff in the delivery of project management servicesleading to quality solutions to meet GIS business needs for FoothillsProgram Managers. You will also work closely with other GIS UnitLeaders and the Resource Information Management Branch in thedevelopment and delivery of regional and provincial level initiatives.
Your well-developed leadership and project management skills willbe put to use as you define project needs with clients and negotiatescheduling of project requests to ensure that priority is directedtowards initiatives identified in the Department’s business plan.Interaction with external clients and department business units willnecessitate the need for your excellent interpersonal, problem solving,and communication skills to establish relationships, assess needs andtranslate those needs into viable GIS or mapping solutions. Your broadknowledge of natural resource management, geospatial sciences andtechnology, government polices and practices will enable you to applythis knowledge in program delivery.
Qualifications: Degree in Natural Sciences or Geographic Information Systems with considerable years of directly related experience, preferably in GIS. Equivalencies will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with experience using ArcGIS, ArcInfo and ArcView. Experience with project management is an asset.
Note: Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
