English essential

Education

  • Graduation from a post-secondary institution program of at least 2 years duration specializing in Cartography-Digital Mapping. Proof of education is required.

Experience

*Considerable experience in the design and execution of cartographic representation of natural resource data.

Experience in using geomatics-related software packages to retrieve and manipulate spatial data for cartographic purposes, including ESRI and PCI Geomatics softwares, Corel and Adobe graphic applications.

Experience in cost estimating with outside service bureaus on digital hardcopy output.

Experience in PC softwares primarily, with some Mac platform exposure.

Experience in communicating effectively with project proponents and partners to achieve common goals.

*Note: In this case considerable means the applicant must have played a key or lead role in designing, executing and delivering publication quality cartographic and graphic output under conditions which include both minimal direction and team settings, and this work was undertaken in position(s) where cartography and graphics were the main function of the previous job position(s).

Challenge

Conceptualizes, designs and prepares cartographic presentation material. Manages the computerized system, applications and resources related to cartography and map design. Utilizes geographic information systems and image processing softwares. Determines in consultation with professional scientists, planners and management specialists the cartographic resource needs of the Atlantic Service Centre. Delivers, within strict budgetary restrictions, cartographic services and products. Develops a computerized map information base and presentation materials for the national parks and sites in the Atlantic Region.

Consultation with resource conservation managers and scientists. Analysing, estimating, acquiring and controlling cost-effective computer software and hardware. Develop and continually upgrade skills and capabilities in computer skills relating to cartography and geomatics. Assist in the development of an up-to-date map library/filing system.
