Digitization Librarian – Union of BC Indian Chiefs Resource Centre (Vancouver, BC)

The UBCIC Resource Centre is seeking a temporary, full-time Digitization Librarian to work on grant- funded projects through March, 2008.

Duties:
• Digitize and describe library and archival records in multiple formats
• Perform manipulation of digital records such as file type conversion and compression to create access copies
• Create metadata for digital collection databases
• Perform indexing of digital collections
• Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive digital asset management plan

Required Qualifications:
• Knowledge of history and issues which affect BC First Nations communities
• Strong computer skills including MS Office and database experience
• An understanding of library cataloguing, archival description (RAD), and/or indexing and subject analysis
• Ability to work both independently and in a team setting

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master of Library and Information Studies or related degree
• Experience working on digitization projects
• Experience using DB/TextWorks
• Experience with scanning and OCR
• Desire to work for a nonprofit organization

Terms of Employment:
• Work hours: Full Time (35 hours/week) with scheduling flexibility
• Start date: as soon as possible
• End date: March 30, 2008
• Pay Rate: $19 per hour plus prorated payout on vacation time
