GIS Technician, Regional District of the Okanagan-Similkameen (Penticton, BC)


(Full Time, Temporary)

Under the direction of the IS Manager, the GIS Technician is responsible for a wide range of technical duties related to the maintenance and development of GIS applications, procedures and standards, assembly of spatial and related attribute data and the production of maps, reports and related information for departmental and corporate needs.

Qualifications:
• Experience with IBM compatible systems, LAN technology and standard software (ie.
spreadsheet, relational databases and word processing systems)
• Completion of an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems from a recognized
post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education, training and related
experience
• Knowledge of regional and municipal government functions.
• In addition, the following would be an asset:

– working knowledge of ArcGIS, ArcIMS, ArcSDE, MS SQL Server, MS Access, ASP, VB.NET and ArcObjects programming

– ability to adapt to changing GIS and technological advancements

• Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures
• Ability to communicate one on one or to large groups in a courteous and diplomatic manner

This temporary, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The term for this
position is November 2007 to approximately December 31st 2008 with the possibility of future
extensions. Bi-weekly wages for the position are Pay Grade 7 $25.82 per hour (November 1,
2007 rate), plus 14% in lieu of benefits.
