Duties:

Reporting to the Supervisor, GIS and Cartography, the Technician will work on the migration and reconciliation of Crown lands into the new land registration system.  They will be responsible to analyze, interpret, compile, code and manipulate survey fabric data for updating the Provincial Crown Lands Cadastral Database in concert with existing GIS Technicians. Using specialized ESRI software and data collected from the field offices, Crown Lands Cadastral GIS and Service Nova Scotia & Municipal Relations NSPRD; the Technician will continue the building, updating and maintenance of the cadastral digital database.  In addition the Technician will provide information, maps and analysis in response to inquiries, requests and updates.  The Technician will be required to generate compiled plans both digitally and hard copy that will be utilized with migration and reconciliation of Crown lands.  Must be able to multitask and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to work and communicate within a high pressure team environment.

Qualifications:
 
Requires Grade XII plus must be a graduate of a college or technical institution which specializes in Cartography, Geographic Information Systems, Surveying or Remote Sensing or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience in dealing with geographic information systems.  In-depth knowledge and experience in the use of geographic information systems and related database applications; understanding and use of legal documentation and terminology are required.  Extensive knowledge of GIS technologies and software packages including: ESRI suite of software, UNIX, Windows 2000, WordPerfect, Lotus Approach, Access, SQL, etc.  Must possess a wide range of cartographic skills and have an aptitude for working with old documents and maps.  Must be a team player with a strong ability to interact with co-workers, other professionals and management; possess a working knowledge of the basic principles of land surveying, photogrammetry, map projections and the use of surveying software, ie., C&G; have good written and verbal communication skills; have the ability to adapt to changing technologies and methodologies; possess an ability for writing procedures and policies pertaining to GIS.

Classification Level: TE 16 -22
 
Salary Range: $34, 053 – $50,516
