Reporting directly to the Manager, Land Development, this position is responsible for the provision of information to the NWT Housing Corporation’s (NWTHC) management and administration of land and building inventory assets using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The incumbent is the resident expert in new geomatics technology, managing the mapping and is responsible for the digital mapping database.
The GIS Mapping Specialist will manage the land, aspects of NWTHC’s building and mortgage interests to ensure the business objectives of the Corporation are met and projected system benefits are realized. The position provides input and coordinates the process to assess, acquire and implement an enterprise land information system that will provide graphic and textual information on all parcels of land the Corporation has a building or financial interest in.
Applicants must have knowledge of the geomatics industry, including survey theories and the mapping process and have an understanding of the basic principles of community planning and of land tenure to ensure that the NWTHC follows the Planning Act. Knowledge of AUTOCAD, GPS, ARC GIS, ARC SDE, ARC Info or other GIS along with a good working knowledge of computer hardware such as plotters, CD Rom, and various database systems is required.
This knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a minimum of a Bachelors degree in surveying, geography, GIS and five years of related experience in the geomatics industry. Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.
The salary starts at $34.20 per hour (approximately $66,690 per annum), plus an annual Northern Allowance of $2,500.
This competition may be used to fill similar positions that become available over the next six months.
