Archivist, UBCIC (Vancouver, BC)


UBCIC Resource Centre

The UBCIC Resource Centre is seeking a full-time Archivist committed to meeting the information needs of BC First Nations communities while enjoying the benefits of a friendly work environment and a generous vacation package. The UBCIC Resource Centre is a specialized library and archives with important and unique collections of textual and audio visual holdings related to BC First Nations land rights. Reporting to the Resource Centre Director, the Archivist will be responsible for developing an archival program which incorporates his/her strengths and interests, and manages the day-to-day operation of the archives. These duties include appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation of archival records; digitization of multi-media materials; policy development; and training and supervision of students, interns and volunteers. An ability to manage time and competing priorities is essential. Some grant writing, contract management, and administrative report writing will also be required.

Required Qualifications:
• Knowledge of history and issues which affect BC First Nations communities
• Demonstrated experience in archival appraisal, arrangement and description (according to the Rules for Archival Description)
• Understanding of preventative conservation and proper archival handling
• Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
• Strong computer skills including MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master of Archival Studies degree
• Experience working on digitization projects
• Experience planning and managing projects
• Experience using DB/TextWorks
• Records management experience
• Technical expertise in network administration, database management, and/or web design
• Desire to work for a nonprofit organization

Library staff hours:
• Full Time (35 hours/week)

Pay Rate: $36,000 per year plus benefits and a generous vacation package
