The Referrals Assessor is responsible for collecting accurate information from community members, most notably trappers, to determine how treaty rights can be accommodated within the mandate of the BC Oil and Gas Commission (OGC) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The successful person will be working under the day-to-day direction of the other Referrals Assessor. This is a highly demanding job requiring tact, flexibility and the ability to work with all kinds of personalities. The job will evolve as we bring together land use information in different media and expand to include concerns of all community members. Training & promotion opportunities available.
The Referral Assessor 1) verifies and maintains court-proof files for all OGC referrals sent to Lands & Resources; 2) gathers and organizes relevant information from interviews with trappers; and 3) works with maps and other media.
Examples of Duties Performed:
1) Meticulous analysis of referrals for accuracy, make corrections, research unknowns.
2) Conduct interviews with community members, especially traditional land users.
3) Facilitate discussions between land users affected by projects and the companies & government agencies undertaking such projects.
4) Undertake field visits. Monitor compliance of third parties with FNFN policies/procedures.
5) Prepare summaries and relevant information for presentation to chief & council.
6) Assist in maintaining an ongoing geographic information system (GIS) inventory of resources within FNFN’s traditional territory.
7) Cross-train to take on other duties as needed under the supervision of the Director.
