In your role as GIS Technician you will provide state-of-the-art support in responding to mapping requests, preparation of base maps and databases for conducting land use inventories and the development of high calibre reports regarding agricultural water demand in the Okanagan and Nicola basins.
As an integral member of the Resource Management Branch, you will make independent judgments in providing GIS services in the development of an agricultural water demand model being developed under the mandate of this project.
In this multifaceted role, you will develop information to support Ministry and government initiatives that lead to sustainable management of agriculture lands and rural development. You will also develop, manage and share data and information resources to support planning for agriculture and the allocation of water resources to the Agriculture Land Reserve.
You possess a Bachelor of Arts Degree specializing in either geography, agriculture or environmental science. Your degree is augmented by a Diploma or certificate in Spatial Information Systems. Your qualifications are followed by one year’s experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience with technical training in database and geographic information systems (GIS).
You are highly interested in land use planning, geography or resource management. You have strong computer, analytical, organizational and writing skills, combined with working well independently and adapting to working in a changing environment with overlapping priorities.
