The Water Control and Structures, Operations and Maintenance Branch, is a key branch within the Engineering & Operations Division of Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation. The branch ensures safe and effective provincial infrastructure encompassing bridges and large culverts, grade separation structures, overhead signs, water and flood control structures, diversions, drainage network and diking systems, valued at approximately $4.6 billion, through the efficient delivery of inspections, planning, design, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction programs.

Qualifications:
Civil Engineering Technology Certificate or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience preparing design and construction drawings for bridge/culvert related works. Demonstrated ability to apply overall understanding of bridge and culvert design and detailing to duties. Knowledge of basic sediment and erosion control measures relevant to bridge/culvert related works. Experience with the use of Microstation and Autocad, MS Office, GIS technology (Geomedia and ArcView), GPS technology and traditional surveying techniques are critical – knowledge or experience with total station is an asset. Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills, organizational skills, and oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.

Duties: The Design and Graphics Technician will assist with the preparation of design drawings and environmental submission drawings for maintenance and construction of bridge and culvert structures. The incumbent will assist with design calculations and concepts, review and interpretation of field data for the development of DTMs (digital terrain models), preliminary design plans and reports. The incumbent will also be responsible for the preparation of various GIS maps, and will review and enter GIS data updates.
