Selkirk College is seeking an individual to serve in the role of Research Assistant in the Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre (SGRC) and Bachelor of Geographic Information Systems degree program.  The position primarily includes applied research project work that integrates both geographic information system and remote sensing technologies.

The Selkirk Geospatial Research Center is a leading edge instructional and research facility focused on geomatics technologies.  Built on a foundation of partnerships, the Selkirk Geospatial Research Center’s mandate includes training, research, and application development. The Bachelors in Geographic Information Systems program is a new undertaking for Selkirk College which builds on our existing diploma and advanced diploma programming.

The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of an advanced diploma or equivalent in geographic information systems and/or remote sensing technologies.  Preference will be given to candidates who possess higher credentials and work experience with the following vendor specific applications: ESRI / PCI Geomatica / ER Mapper / IDRISI / Definiens / Ozi Explorer/ Autodesk / Oracle.  They should have excellent interpersonal, time management, and project management skills and have demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team, as well as the initiative to maintain professional currency and adapt to new technologies.

This is a six-month 100% short term appointment commencing September 15, 2007 through to March 31, 2008.  Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement.  The salary (at a 100% appointment) is $4,140.67 to $6,560.75 per month and is based on qualifications and experience.
