Ministry of Forests – Capitalize on this opportunity to build your GIS skills while working in a dynamic, challenging and progressive working environment. As GIS technician you will be a critical component to BC Timber Sales meeting its mandate of marketing timber and benchmarking log prices. You will work as part of the GIS team and be responsible for:
– Managing and maintaining spatial and attribute data, data files and data bases
– Operating GIS software and Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)
to produce spatial products, terrain models, graphics, descriptive statistics and
depict resource themes that meet cartographic and Ministry Standards
– Verifying quality of end products against Cartographic and Ministry standards

You will also have enthusiasm and dedication to teamwork, a desire to provide top notch service and an eye for quality results. You bring to the position a technical school diploma in GIS and one year of related and current (gained within the last three years) experience or the equivalent combination of training and experience such as four years of related experience. You have demonstrated experience manipulating and integrating geographical and statistical data using multiple geographic information systems applications and relational database management systems.

Other attributes include:
-Demonstrated experience creating a variety of digital, graphical and descriptive
products including themes, colour thematic maps, terrain models and associated
descriptive statistics
-Experience working with Genus RMT application or other forestry-related
applications that incorporate ESRI (ArcMap) software products (preferred)
