Come be a part of a dynamic team of professionals working to implement the Government of Alberta First Nations Consultation Policy and Guidelines. As an Aboriginal Consultation Officer you will play a critical role within the team.
You will be the department’s frontline contact with Aboriginal communities, your primary responsibilities include the implementation of consultation procedures with Aboriginal communities and organizations regarding historic resources management activities, advising senior and executive management, assisting in the resolution of consultation issues with substantial historic resources concerns, and support and facilitation of Traditional Use Studies through community liaison and negotiations. This work is a part of a province wide, cross ministry strategy for resource development consultation initiatives, and related regulatory activities.
To be successful in the position you must be have well developed research and communication skills. Training or practical experience in consultation processes (including the cultural protocols of Aboriginal communities), strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in team environments are essential. You should also be familiar with provincial regulatory processes concerning natural resource development, particularly those involving historic resources as defined in the Historical Resources Act.
Note: The successful candidate will be required to travel to various locations within Alberta.
Qualifications: Related university degree and considerable work experience is required. Capacity with one of the principal First Nation languages in Alberta, as well as experience in Traditional Use Studies or Geographic Information System applications would be assets. A valid Alberta Drivers License is required. Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo security screening.
Salary: $56832 TO $74496
