In this senior level professional position, you will play a critical role in implementing the Government of Alberta’s First Nations consultation policy and guidelines. As the department’s frontline contact with local Aboriginal communities in either the Northern or Central Region, your primary responsibilities include: implementation of the First Nations Consultation Guidelines on Land Management and Resource Development; coordination of Aboriginal consultation training and communication; issues management and support to compliance, water planning and partnerships; and capacity and relationship building for First Nations. You will also be part of a team that will manage the Aboriginal consultation element of Alberta Environment’s environmental assessment and regulatory approvals of major industrial, municipal and water approval projects.
As the ideal candidate, you will have exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with Aboriginal people, the federal government and other departments. Furthermore, strong leadership skills are essential as this position will be working with and advising department managers and staff on difficult and emerging issues concerning Aboriginal consultation and relations.
Qualifications: A related university degree and extensive related experience including working with, or in, Aboriginal communities is required. Equivalencies will be considered. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
Note: Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening. Some travel will be required. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies at an equivalent or lower level.
Salary: $60,672 TO $79,956 PER ANNUM
