The First Nations Education and Services department is seeking a qualified instructor to teach INST 104 — Indigenous Ways of Learning. INST 104 is a one semester course delivered in the fall 2007 semester as a pilot. Camosun College plans to incorporate this course into the First Nations Community Studies program. The course explores Indigenous ways of learning and living. It engages students in self reflection on their own learning processes and examines how various learning approaches are grounded in culture.
The ideal candidate will have:
• a relevant degree(s); a Masters degree is preferred
• previous post-secondary teaching experience
• will be able to demonstrate that he/she understands the history, issues and socio-cultural affects that influence and guide Indigenous student learning.
Selection processes will value internal and theoretical knowledge of First Nations peoples’ processes, and ability to model and speak from an Indigenous perspective.
A commitment to collaborative approaches, team work and student success is essential.
