GIS Analyst, District of North Vancouver (North Vancouver, BC)

A challenging career opportunity is immediately available for a GIS Analyst to work as part of our GIS team.  We are looking for a progressive individual with a diverse skill set who can make leading edge contributions to a geographic information system.  The organization and the community utilize spatial information from our progressive and mature GIS on a regular basis.  You will be responsible for making maps, helping to maintain over 300 data sets, performing complex analysis, running system diagnostics, creating databases, developing web and desktop applications, and performing customer service and system administration functions.

 

 

 

You should possess the following:

  • A positive attitude and be able to collaborate within a team environment. You should also be analytical, detail-oriented and able to use your problem-solving skills to organize and analyze complex datasets and effectively communicate results.
  • Excellent understanding of GIS systems including software, hardware and common data sets.
  • Thorough knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software.  Specifically, ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, ArcInfo.
  • Knowledge of relational database design, concepts, and techniques, preferably in an ArcSDE Geodatabase environment.
  • Skills in application design and development, preferably developing web-based applications.
  • Familiarity with graphic editing software, FTP software, CAD software, GPS units, remote sensing, and orthoimagery processing is beneficial.
  • Municipal GIS experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree program in a related discipline such as Geography or Computer Science, including courses in spatial information systems and sound related experience, or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.

The hourly pay range for this unionized position is $26.79 – $31.62 (’06 rates) based on a 35-hour flexible workweek.
