GIS Analyst 1, City of Surrey (Surrey, BC)

The City of Surrey is growing at a tremendous rate.  Rapid growth in a demanding environment means that innovation and creativity are vital to the success of our community of 410,000 citizens.  Within this demanding environment, the opportunity exists in the Engineering Department for a GIS Analyst 1.

You will perform professional research, data management and analysis of data within the Engineering Department for citywide use.  You will provide support, direction and training to staff throughout the City; act as a project leader on projects in a preliminary investigation, design implementation and post-implementation review of GIS applications; troubleshoot user and technical problems; customize and support GIS applications with programming tools to meet end user needs; perform data modelling using Visio; liaise with other cities and external agencies and departments in the exchange of spatial, attribute and graphic data.

You must also demonstrate advanced skills and knowledge in a full range of specialized programming tools and languages including but not limited to scripts, menus and routines of varying complexity; proven advanced skills in identification of software and hardware problems; extensive knowledge of GIS and CAD including current GIS/spatial mapping software, terminology, principles and practices; data base management and query software.
