The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands’ (MAL) mandate includes management of specified Crown land and resources in a manner that embraces the economic, environmental and social goals of government.

As the Land Officer you will provide professional, technical advice and recommendations on all allocation aspects of land management.

You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Evaluating, investigating and reviewing multi-disciplined applications for licenses, amendments, approvals and land allocations plans
  • Investigating, analysing and determining the best use of Crown land to minimize effects on other values
  • Determining appropriate tenure, real property valuation (rental /sale price), including land, timber and improvements
  • Conducting conflict resolution, public consultation processes and education initiatives to negotiate and resolve disputes among conflicting parties over the use of Crown land and to ensure decisions enact best use of the resource throughout the region

LSO2 Classification: You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Engineering, Geology, Agriculture or Natural Resources Management, or any other land use or resources related field and 3 years experience. You also have full professional designation as, or eligibility to be registered as, a Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.), Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Professional Forester (RPF), or a BC Land Surveyor (BCLS) in the Province of British Columbia.

STO24 Classification:
You have completed your Bachelor’s degree in either Geography, Environmental Studies, Biology, Resource Management, Agriculture, Forestry, Land Planning or Land Use Economics and have a minimum of 4 years experience in a resource management related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preference may be given to those with experience in land valuation analysis, techniques and principles. You have at the minimum, a valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Desirable qualifications include experience negotiating/mediating solutions to resource management issues, particularly with land; and experience leading conflict resolution processes.

Individuals who do not meet all the qualifications, but are interested in Land Officer type work, are encouraged to submit an application. ILMB maintains lists of interested individuals whom may be called for opportunities at a lower classification.
