Under direction of the Director, Wildlife Division you will be responsible for the GNWT’s involvement in the coordination, implementation and development of the Northwest Territories Protected Areas Strategy (PAS). You will also act as the prime staff link between DIAND, Aboriginal organizations, environmental groups and industry associations involved with PAS.
In April 1999 the GNWT Cabinet signed the NWT Protected Areas Strategy that confirmed GNWT commitments to provide ongoing coordination and technical support to organizations across the NWT. The Strategy commits the GNWT to provide a Secretariat to coordinate intergovernmental/ interregional advancement of protected area initiatives. This position coordinates the functions of the Secretariat that directly affect the success of the PAS initiative and the credibility of the department in the NWT. The development and implementation of the PAS has significant economic implications for industry, Aboriginal organizations and communities in the NWT. It also serves as a key initiative in environmental conservation and tourism promotion.
You should have a Bachelors degree in geography, resource management, or parks planning and 4 years progressively related experience in parks, protected areas and/or land management. Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.
The salary is currently under review and will include an annual Northern Allowance of $2,500.
