Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a diploma/certificate in civil technology, geomatics or geographic information systems from a community college or technical institute, together with a minimum of one year related work experience. Other combinations of education and experience related to drafting/mapping will be considered. Strong practical experience and theoretical understanding of the principles, methods and procedures of computer assisted drafting/mapping (Autodesk 3D 2006 or later), and GIS (primarily ArcGIS Desktop 9.n) software applications are required. Good working knowledge of the latest drafting software (AUTOCAD) and principles of surveying. Experience in a land use planning office is an asset, including knowledge of and ability to interpret registered plans, assessment rolls, statutes, regulations, zoning by-laws and boundary related Orders-in-Council, and land descriptions related to Certificates of Title in the Land Titles Office. Strong oral, interpersonal and written communication skills, excellent initiative, organizational skills, and attention to detail combined with demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential. Proven team work skills required.

Duties:
The position is responsible for the geographic information system (GIS), computer aided mapping (CAD) and drafting operations of the regional office in support of the delivery of community planning services. The work involves preparing, maintaining, integrating and managing land parcel data, a wide variety of other geospatial data, land related information and digital imagery; preparing maps and diagrams for development plan and zoning by-laws, background studies, special projects, subdivision proposals, road closure bylaws; and preparing display material and exhibits for public meetings and appeal board hearings.

Will work with other regional offices and departments in the preparation of specialized maps. May provide training and technical advice to other Community Planning Offices, Branches and municipal staff respecting AUTOCAD and GIS systems and software.
