Sustainable Resource Development , Edmonton – If you are interested in problem solving complex geographic or technical assessments using your technical judgment and knowledge of cartographic and geographic principles then we have two positions that will attract you.
Working in the Land Base Data Unit, you will be responsible for creating and updating Base Data using specification and procedures to produce accurate data. This data base encompasses the province of Alberta, and includes geo-administrative boundaries, hydrography, access and land use facility features.
The technologists are required to:
– Update base features data by reviewing external data submissions, recommend acceptance and resolve data error
– perform quality control and auditing of data
– create base features data and database files using imagery or data from various sources
– participate in the development and improvement of standards, specifications, processes, procedures and products
– keep abreast of changing technology
While performing these duties, you will also be using your excellent communication, organizational and team player skills and abilities.
Qualifications: Technical Diploma in GIS, cartography or surveying and several years related experience including CAD, GIS, spatial databases, using topographic data. Knowledge of geographic information systems, land survey systems, cartographic principles and practices, and base data sets is required. Equivalences will be considered.
Note: One position is a permanent full time position and one position is a full time temporary salaried position until June 30, 2008. Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies. This position may be filled at a lower classification and salary.
Salary: $45,420 TO $59,484 PER ANNUM
