Ministry of Agriculture and Lands – This is a great opportunity to develop and strengthen agriculture and food production programs with First Nations and Aboriginal organizations in Northern British Columbia. If you are passionate about small scale environmentally friendly food production systems and enjoy working in a cross cultural environment, this position is for you.

Throughout the Interior Region, there are numerous First Nations, bands and communities. While some First Nations are involved in ranching, farming and food production, there is potential for considerable growth in agri-food economic activity. As the First Nations Agriculture Liaison, you will develop a relationship with individuals and groups to understand their unique needs and circumstances.

Your primary role will be to identify and stimulate agriculture and food-related economic opportunities for First Nations, individuals and organizations. You will be expected to maintain personal contact with First Nations farmers, Bands and First Nations primarily within Northern and Central BC. This contact will be achieved by way of travel to the various communities on a regular basis to meet with the Chief and Council members and various First Nations staff persons responsible for economic development and natural resource management.

You have a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related field or a diploma in related field and five years of experience. There are various other combinations of relevant education, experience and training that may result in your meeting the requirements for this position such as Natural Resource Management, Land Use Planning, Resource Economics, Environmental Management or Land and Resource Management.

This position requires some evening and weekend work, as well as overtime. Travel and the ability to work in adverse conditions are also requirements. Please Note: There is only one vacancy. The position has been posted in the High Country Region and the North by Northwest Region. The successful candidate will be given the choice of their preferred location – Williams Lake or Prince George or Smithers.
