Position Description:
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters (or equivalent) degree in Geography, Information Management, Computer Science or related field (with emphasis in GIS); four years experience directly related to GIS; preference for experience teaching GIS in college atmosphere. Must have and maintain current working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, including Geodatabase and ArcSDE. Must be able to effectively communicate technical processes as well as the theoretical background of GIS to a broad spectrum of students.
Responsibilities:
The GIS Coordinator responsible for maintaining the integrity of the GIS program at Sheldon Jackson College, assuring complete and thorough review of all systems related to it. S/he must be available to work closely with any/all courses as requested, and as it applies to GIS. Collaborative work with all programs, departments, and/or grant-funded activities is expected.
Duties:
• Consistently exhibit a mature work ethic that includes but is not limited to: ongoing dependability and reliability in position; maintenance of college/faculty/staff/student confidentiality; cooperation with all staff and faculty; collaborative work with all College departments
• Maintain ethical code of conduct commensurate with College policy and individual profession
• Teach comprehensive set of Geospatial science classes at SJC using ARCGIS/ARCINFO
• Develop and maintain curriculum for Geospatial science classes including Remote Sensing class
• Maintain and update spatial data library
• Create & maintain Geodatabase for teaching and research at SJC
• Create maps for varying SJC departments as requested
• Develop and offer weekend GIS workshops for regional entities
• Integrate Garmin GPS data into ARCMAp
• Teach GIS class(es) during summer camps
• Integrate Native ways of knowing into GIS curriculum
• Attend faculty meetings as required
• Participate in the employee evaluation process
• Other duties as assigned
