Ministry of Forests – BC Timber Sales, Peace Liard Business Area
Join a world leader in forestry. As GIS/Mapping Technician you will create various digital, graphical and descriptive products including themes, colour thematic maps, terrain models and associated descriptive statistics to support or enhance Timber Supply Office (TSO) planning initiatives. You will also manipulate and integrate geographical and statistical data using multiple GIS applications (ArcInfo, ArcView) and relational database management systems to achieve results. As well, you will interrogate databases to address planning issues and provide insights into resource management. As the TSO mapping expert, you will ensure the maintenance and security of digital information as well as the conformance of data.
You bring to the position a Technical school diploma in GIS and one year of related and current experience or the equivalent combination of training and experience. You have demonstrated experience manipulating and integrating geographical and statistical data using multiple geographic information systems applications and relational database management systems.
Additionally, you have experience creating a variety of digital, graphical and descriptive products including themes, colour thematic maps, terrain models and associated descriptive statistics. Previous experience using ArcInfo, ArcView and GENUS is an asset. You must also be willing to fly in fixed/rotary winged aircraft.
Lesser qualified applicants may be appointed at a lower level.
