Education

Graduation with degree from a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Oceanography or a Natural Resources Management discipline; and
Graduation from a technical institute or college with a diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or geomatics.
* Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.
Experience
Experience implementing GIS applications in support of resource management.
Experience working with ArcGIS software including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox, and the Spatial Analyst extension.
Experience acquiring, compiling, creating, converting, editing, manipulating, and maintaining digital spatial and non-spatial data in a GIS environment.
Experience managing, editing, and combining geospatial data from a wide range of sources.
Experience generating a variety of digital products including quality thematic maps, and related graphs and charts.

Work Environment
The Western and Northern Service Centre of the Parks Canada Agency is a network of professional and technical expertise established to support National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas in Western and Northern Canada in the protection and presentation of cultural and natural resources.
Challenge
In your role as Geomatics Technician in the Western and Northern Service Centre in Vancouver, you will be a key member of the resource conservation function, and perform a variety of duties, including:
• Under the guidance of the Ecosystem Data Specialist, acquire, compile, manipulate, and conduct analysis of marine spatial and non-spatial data using GIS software, spreadsheets and database management systems.
• Establish and maintain ecological, social, economic and cultural databases for use by Agency GIS staff, science staff and agency partners.
• Create and maintain metadata according to agency operating principles and data management (metadata) practices and standards.
• Generate a variety of digital products including quality thematic maps, and related graphs and charts to support more complex data analysis.
