Under the direction of the Supervisor Wildlife Management (Sahtu Region) – and in collaboration with the Sahtu Land Use Planning Board and Sahtu Renewable Resources Board, the GIS Specialist will conduct GIS spatial analysis and mapping to support natural resource management within the Sahtu Settlement Area. The skills and abilities sought for this position are:
- prior experience using a wide variety of computer software and hardware, particularly for creation of digital cartographic products;
- advanced academic/technical training with ESRI software suite (ver. 9x);
- prior experience with manipulation and analyses of data from satellite and GPS-tracked radiocollared wildlife;
- ability to design and deliver GIS/digial mapping training programs;
- ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and experience in working in a cross-cultural environment.
Some travel in small fixed-wing aircraft and/or helicopter may be required. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with prior programming experience, such as VB, VBA, and VB.NET.
Typically this knowledge, skills and abilities would be acquired through a Bachelor in Geography, Ecology, Biology or Natural Resources; a minimum of advanced training in GIS; and a minimum of 2 years work experience with ESRI software. Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities equal in worth to the formal education and experience requirements will be considered.
The salary starts at $41.05 an hour plus an annual Northern Allowance of $12,968.00.
