This position is located at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) in the Yellowknife and reports to the Territorial Archaeologist. The GIS Officer provides GIS products, services, expertise, and advice to departmental personnel and external clients in the Government of the Northwest Territories, federal government, aboriginal organizations, private industry and the general public in order to assist in the management, monitoring and protection of NWT heritage sites and places.
The incumbent must be able to operate a GIS facility according to industry standards and is responsible for the overall management of the GIS hardware, software and geo-referenced digital data maintained by the PWNHC. The incumbent also assists in making decisions in the review of land use permit applications and in answering spatial data requests.
Such knowledge and abilities are normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in geography with an emphasis in spatial analysis techniques and human landscape theory and methods, and at least three years of experience in GIS applications. Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.
Salary starts at $34.20 (approximately $66,690 per annum), plus an annual Northern Allowance of $2,500.
This competition may be used to fill similar positions that become available over the next six months.
