Engineering Support Technician – District Municipality of Muskoka

Wage: $24.19 to $26.58 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for producing and maintaining maps, plans, specifications, databases, etc., in hard copy and/or electronically, providing this information for the District, outside agencies and the public as required, including sale and cash management. Provides drafting and Geographic Information System (GIS) services to the Engineering and Public Works Department and other departments as required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (Not limited to)

• Designs, develops and maintains applications for GIS, Asset Management and other databases, including manipulation of spatial attribute data and map generation using multiple programming environments.

• Researches and implements data management tools, including the development of Graphical User Interfaces.

• Liaises/coordinates with other departments on GIS, Asset Management and other database management issues.

• Downloads and processes information from electronic data capture devices including Global Positioning Systems.

• Facilitates amendment of as-constructed drawings following plant and equipment changes.

• Maintains archives for hard copy and electronic plans and specifications including real property plans and construction drawings pertaining to Muskoka Roads, watermains, sewers and facilities.

• Prints and assembles drawing sets for tendering and construction as well as archiving “as-constructed” drawings on and off site.

• Prints, distributes costs and/or collects payments for maps and plans for internal and external use.

• Provides manual drafting and/or computer aided drafting services as required.

• Orders drafting supplies and maintains printing and plotting equipment.

• Provides backup for public interface function of the department.

• Related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of a two-year community college diploma course in a related field or equivalent, together with a one year certificate course in GIS. Three to four years experience in a municipal environment in a related field. Experience in computer aided drafting, database management and application development in various GIS and programming environments. Excellent communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Valid Ontario driver’s license.
