The Heiltsuk Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) has recently been formed to bring together all the business ventures of the Heiltsuk First Nation. The Heiltsuk Nation is the third largest in BC with more than 2500 members. HEDC is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the establishment of this exciting new enterprise. The Heiltsuk vision for success is powerful and is based on a strategy that brings together its’ numerous forestry, fishery, retail, and aircraft service businesses. Currently HEDC includes 14 businesses with approximately $20 million in annual turnover.

The role of the CEO exists to maximize profit while ensuring a good return on investment; serving a broad base of customers while maintaining the company’s stability; and, ensuring growth while meeting the needs of the community. It is also important that the CEO provide the necessary leadership to ensure that the talented HEDC employees are able to achieve their fullest potential.

The ideal CEO will have at least ten years of progressive experience managing a dynamic for-profit business, experience managing multiple departments or business units, experience in financial controls and systems, and experience working in economic development. Also essential is a combination of credentials and expertise, credibility and innovation, versatility and flexibility, along with the willingness and enthusiasm to work in a traditional First Nations
environment.
