Background

The Kawartha Heritage Conservancy (KHC) is a regionally-based land trust dedicated to conserving the natural and cultural heritage and the outdoor traditions of the Kawartha bioregion. Our work is partnership and stewardship-based, building on community knowledge, research and scientific practice to enhance the ecological health and economic well-being of the region. We specialize in conservation planning and securement strategies.

We have a demonstrated need and commitment to build internal mapping capacity and to enhance our existing information management capacity. We are currently seeking a qualified Information and Mapping Coordinator (IMC) to help us achieve both of these needs.

 

Responsibilities

Based out of the Conservancy office in Peterborough, the IMC will work with the Executive Director to help lay the foundation for launching a permanent and resilient information management and mapping program. Specific goals and responsibilities for the 6 month position include:

  1. Develop a business plan for the information management and mapping program.
  2. Oversee students, interns and contractors relating to mapping and information needs. This includes managing the creation of a data library, multi-scale map templates and standardized symbology, as well as website maintenance.
  3. Identify new funding and fee-for-service opportunities in both the public and private sectors and write proposals as required.
  4. Connect and build relationships with other organizations and information management experts to assess needs and create synergies and support networks for the program.
  5. Create custom maps and information products as required to meet existing and new commitments.

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have demonstrated 5+ years of work-related experience in mapping, GIS, information management and project coordination. Proven experience and expertise in ArcGIS, Geodatabases, websites and other information management tools are essential. The candidate will have worked in the conservation / information management sector and will bring to the position new ideas, contacts and relationships. The candidate will have experience in proposal writing.
