FUNCTIONS:

The Planning and Development Department is seeking a specialized planner with excellent technical and analytical skills along with experience in spatial data analysis, cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to work in a diverse urban planning and cartographic environment. Responsibilities will include:

  • designing and producing accurate, high quality and often complex cartographic/GIS products, suitable for professional reports and presentations;
  • assessing business requirements, evaluating data design and maintaining and analysing data sets to prepare the required standard and custom cartographic products
  • manipulating a range of digital data, exporting to other programs and otherwise exercising judgement and making sound recommendations or decisions regarding priorities, procedures and products;
  • participating in or managing project teams to enhance the value and use of the City’s GIS
  • and staying current with new products and developments in the field;

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

§         Minimum of two years of experience working with GIS and Cartography related technologies;

§         Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems / Engineering / Information Technology / Planning / Applied Geography with specific training in Cartography or Spatial Analysis is required;  Membership in APEGGA (or eligibility for membership) and/or a Post Graduate Degree/Diploma in GIS / Cartography are definitely assets;

§         Expertise in the use of tools such as Geomedia is an asset.

§         Thorough understanding of spatial data analysis, and geographic and cartographic theory and practices;

§         Excellent research, communication and presentation skills.

§         Applicants may be tested.

HOURS OF WORK:

33.75  hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

 

SALARY RANGE:

21M, Salary Grade: 030, $32.38 – $40.91 (Hourly), $2,185.65 – $2,761.70 (Bi-Weekly), $57,045.47 – $72,080.24 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
