GIS Coordinator, Islands Trust (Victoria)


Salary Range: $53,616.38 – $61, 264.46

The Islands Trust is a federation of independent local governments responsible for land use planning and conservation on BC’s southern coastal islands.  We have a unique provincial mandate to preserve and protect the communities, culture and environment of this special place.  The Islands Trust Area is made up of 13 major islands and more than 450 smaller islands in Georgia Strait and Howe Sound. 

The GIS Coordinator responsible for the planning, coordination, and management of the Trust Area Property Information System (TAPIS), geo-spatial data repositories, and cartographic production.  The position also supervises a GIS Technician, co-op students and contractors.

A degree in Geography, Community Planning or Computer Studies is required, with a minimum of 3 years experience in the planning field, using ArcView or Arc/Info GIS.  Other requirements include knowledge of RDMS, cartographic standards and GIS evaluation methodologies; programming expertise in Avenue, Visual Basic or SQL; strong oral/written communication skills; and exceptional supervisory skills.
