Education

  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in physics, geology or some other science relevant to the position.

Experience

Essential Qualifications:
Experience using geomatics and database management industry standard software.
Experience in natural resource management or environmental planning.
Experience in project design and implementation.
Experience participating in multi-disciplinary working teams.

Asset Qualifications:
Experience in the application of geomatics tools to ocean management planning.

Work Environment

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is responsible for policies and programs in support of Canada’s economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters; for the conservation and sustainable utilization of Canada’s fisheries resources in marine and inland waters; for leading and facilitating federal policies and programs on oceans; and for safe, effective and environmentally sound marine services responsive to the needs of Canadians in a global economy.

Challenge

Develops, implements and maintains geomatics, biological and other databases of arctic ecosystems to support Ocean Program activities. Evaluates, develops and applies data analysis and information presentation technologies such as customized GIS applications, web-design, remote sensing and data visualization and integration. Works interactively and collaboratively with Oceans’ and other staff to provide scientific spatial analysis support, including graphics and relational databases to assist in communicating ocean management concepts with external clients and stakeholders.
