English essential
Education
Graduation from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in biology, ecology, environmental science, resource management or related field.
Experience
Experience working with Aboriginal communities and/or organizations on issues related to wildlife conservation or environmental stewardship.
Experience in facilitating, coordinating and leading multi-stakeholder teams.
Experience in the development, management and implementation of environment-related programs or projects.
Experience in providing scientific advice on environmental issues to senior managers of government, Aboriginal or other conservation partners.
Experience in negotiating agreements or partnerships with provincial/territorial/ federal/Aboriginal governments, business groups or non-governmental organizations.
Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

- This position will require frequent travel within British Columbia and occasional travel to other parts of Canada.
- Valid BC Drivers License.
- Applicants must provide for their own transportation to and from the work location as there is no public transit.

Challenge
With Head, Assessment and Coordination and Manager, Species at Risk, development, implementation and delivery of a regional program, consistent with national policy and guidelines, that works towards ensuring the involvement of relevant Aboriginal people of BC in the regional species at risk program and meets our obligations under the Species at Risk Act. This includes consultation and information-sharing sessions and meetings, developing tools for conserving habitat and species on Reserve, administering the regional component of the national Aboriginal funding programs, negotiating stewardship agreements, and building effective one-on-one relationships with Aboriginal communities that enhance information exchange, build trust and cooperation. It also includes the establishment of effective long term relationships and enhanced information exchange with regional offices of INAC, DFO, and PCA, NCR office, and relevant representatives of the provincial government with respect to species at risk and Aboriginal issues.
