English essential

Education

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in physics, geography, engineering or other scientific discipline relevant to the position such as computer science, with acceptable specialization relevant to the position.

Experience

Experience in conducting remote sensing analysis of hyperspectral and radar imagery and ground spectral data within the field of forestry.

Experience with computers and software applications including image analysis, databases, word processors and spreadsheets.

Experience in carrying out analyses of remote sensing data using scientific software systems.

Experience in developing software for GRID data management systems with distributed data storage and retrieval such as SAFORAH.

Applicants who meet the above criteria will also be assessed against the Statement of Merit Criteria for this position.

Challenge

Contribute to the design and creation of OGC services for SAFORAH for management of hyperspectral, radar, and multispectral data and for forest information products.

Contribute to the design and creation of algorithms for polarimetric radar and hyperspectral analysis.

Using remote sensing data create level 3 and 4 products for EVEOSD test sites.

Under direction, create software for generating bioindicators of forest properties.

Analyze and interpret hyperspectral and radar data and prepare reports.

Modify SAFORAH data management system for new GRID software and web-based services.

Contribute to scientific papers related to the above activities.
