French essential

Education

* Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Sciences or Engineering in a field related to the position (Geomatics, Geodesy, Marine Geology, Physical Sciences, Civil Engineering) OR holder of a Canadian Land Surveyor title (Association of Ontario Lands Surveyors (AOLS) or Association of Canada Lands Surveyors (ACLS)).

Experience

* Experience in geomatics or in a related field (e.g. civil engineering, geophysics).

* Basic computer experience: operating system, office tools.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

  • The following merit criteria may be required for this position. Applicants should indicate in their application if they meet the merit criteria.
    • Experience in statistical data interpretation.
    • Experience in hydrography or in marine cartography.
    • Experience in setting up research and development projects.
  • Operational Requirements which may apply for this position.
    • Work may require long periods of sustained work at a computer station.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    – Reliability status.
    – Medical exam.
    – Hold a valid driver’s licence.
    – The incumbent must agree to work on the field for periods of up to 2 months in the Quebec Region. However, it often occurs that a large part of the work is to be done at the office.

Challenge

Reporting to The Canadian Hydorgraphy Service (CHS) Division Manager, Quebec Region, and supervised by a Project Leader, the geomatician will:
(1) Study, analyse, test and implement procedures and methods to optimize the acquisition, processing, management, production and distribution of hydrographic data;
(2) Act as a Regional Representative Assistant on national committees pertaining to development matters;
(3) Manage and distribute nautical data and information and transform hydrographic data for the preparation of charts and related documents; at this level;
(4) Perform other related tasks.

Towards the end of his/her career plan, the geomatician must acquire overall and operational knowledge in order to perform all the production tasks within the Hydrographic Service in order to assist with the assessment, development and/or implementation of new technologies.
