Position: The Development Services Department is seeking a GIS Technician for a regular, full time position. Reporting to the GIS Co-ordinator, the GIS Technician is responsible for performing a variety of technical assignments involving updating and maintaining CVRD’s existing mapping systems. Work involves editing map data, drafting location maps at various scales, and preparing materials for public presentation. Work requires the provision of basic recording and filing of plans as well as assisting with the Regional District’s house numbering system.

Qualifications: Secondary school graduation plus graduation from a recognized institute with courses in Cartography and legal survey drafting, competency in GIS and CAD applications, and a minimum of two years practical application involving the plotting of survey plans and revising of cadastral base maps preferably in a municipal and/or regional government setting is required; hands-on experience with ArcInfo, ArcView, and some AutoCad is preferred. Candidates must have the ability to plot legal plans accurately, to use and maintain a broad variety of drafting, mapping, and calculating equipment, to make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to interpret and follow detailed instructions, to produce neat accurate work, to deal courteously, tactfully, and diplomatically with employees, the public, and Regional Board members, to work well under pressure in a team environment while meeting multiple deadlines, and to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. It is required that the candidate possess a good knowledge of computer operations and software packages. The successful candidate will hold and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License.

Salary: 35 hour work week, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm (8:00 am to 4:00pm during the summer months). This is a union position (CUPE Local 358) with a salary range of $26.20 – $27.81 per hour (2007 rates).
