This position is being offered through the Summer Female Mentorship Program. This program assists female post-secondary students who are studying in an area where women are under-represented to gain experience in their field. To be eligible, candidates must be full-time female university, community college or recognized trade school students returning to study in the fall in fields where women are under-represented. The expected duration of this temporary assignment is 4 months (May to August).

Duties:
The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division GIS Section is working with Division staff to provide Web-based data delivery solutions for our spatial products. The Forestry GIS Internet Solutions Provider will directly support this process through consultation with clients, design of project strategies, and hands-on development and completion of web sites using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcIMS or MapServer, depending on the project requirements. This consultative, communication-driven process demands a specialized knowledge of forestry combined with the technical ability to deliver solutions for our clients. This placement offers several opportunities for Forestry students with a GIS focus to face realistic challenges and participate in the development of solutions using leading edge technology that will form part of the foundation of their future participation in the full-time workforce.
Qualifications:
Full-time female university student having completed at least their second year of study in the field of forestry, who will be returning to their studies in the fall. You must have training in GIS and in at least 1 programming language. Experience with HTML, JavaScript, or databases is an asset.
