Education

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science or any other field relevant to the position.

Experience

Extensive experience in handling, processing and analyzing geospatial data using geographic information systems (GIS).

Experience developing applications using various object-oriented programming languages.

Experience in data modelling and database design and operation in a context of geospatial applications.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

  • The following merit criteria may be required for this position. Applicants should indicate in their application if they meet the merit criteria.
    • Master’s degree in Geomatics or a related field.
    • Experience in implementing a corporate geographic information systems (GIS).
    • Experience in the environmental field.
    • Experience in handling, processing and analyzing aerial images or photos using image processing software.
    • Experience in using peripherals like hand held mobile geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) receivers.
    • Experience in project management.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    – Reliability status.
    – Valid driver’s licence.

Challenge

Deliver products and services related to cartography, geomatics, geographic information systems and environmental databases for the staff of the Environment Section, Valcartier, in particular, as well as for the staff of the Resources Conservation Branch, other specialists at Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Valcartier and other entities associated with National Defence (DND).

Provide the service with computer and cartography-related support, e.g., in the area of new technology and the various ways of illustrating enveronmental findings.
