1st Annual Interior of B.C. Indigenous Food Sovereignty Conference Report

Dear Friends and Relatives,

You may remember being invited to or participating in the 1st Annual Interior of B.C. Indigenous Food Sovereignty Conference that was held last summer at the En’owkin Centre in Penticton. After working until November compiling the notes of the discussions that took place at the conference, I am now able to distribute the report so others can be made aware of the amazing discussions that took place. (See attached).

I am hoping that the report will inspire people within your nation/region to begin developing community projects and influencing policy around the topic of Indigenous food sovereignty. You will see that there are lots of community action items listed under each heading in the report so hopefully this will give you lots of ideas. I know there is also alot of interest around this topic in various health and government agencies as well, so I hope there will be more funding made available for Indigenous food related projects in the future. Please feel free to circulate the report freely within your communities and policy circles.

I have also attached a Call to Participate letter for the newly designated provincial Working Group on Indigenous Food Sovereignty with the B.C. Food Systems Network. We are looking to recruit 1-2 Indigenous reps from each nation or region. Please forward all expressions of interest to me.

Kukstsemc,
(Thank you)
