Shell Canada Limited has an excellent opportunity for an experienced GIS Technologist within the Exploration and Production Construction Survey & Reclamation (DAR) Team. The GIS Technologist is responsible for assessing client’s needs and to provide mapping, plots, survey plans and other GIS support to Survey Operations, Construction/DAR foremen and other surface project teams.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Mapping and data loading services to different functional groups for the purposes of planning, regulatory application and execution of Shell Canada’s well, pipeline and facility projects;
- Prepare GIS data layers and maps by incorporating information from different data sources (DEM, survey plans, sketches, etc.) and other databases;
- Utilize specialized civil design software, provide schematics, plans and perform calculations as required for design of well pad locations and road works;
- Focal for ERP, facility, public engagement and other mapping projects. Liaise with survey/mapping contractors and clients to insure regulatory requirements and integrity criteria are met. Under the direction of the Geomatics staff, assist in developing of general mapping specifications for regulatory mapping requirements;
- Initiate requests for the purchase of licensing of required spatial datasets for the project areas;
- Assist / train other surface groups in making use of digital spatial data and other new mapping products in their workflow;
- Identify potential data integrity issues in spatial databases and notifying the appropriate data manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years related GIS experience
- Must have a recognized college diploma in GIS, Geomatics or related discipline
- Previous experience in the oil and gas sector
- Proficient in Autocad or Autocad Civil and also Adobe Illustrator
- Good working knowledge of GIS data management
- High awareness of and personal commitment to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
- Previous field survey experience an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with customer focus and attention to detail
